Friday Feature- ArtSnarks Artifacts

Describe yourself in 3 sentences.

As long as I am tinkering, I am happy. Art-wise it is all about the process for me. I am mostly ambivalent about a piece when it is done, but it is nice when something finds a home.

How did you name your business?

I was reading Lewis Caroll’s The Hunting of the Snark at the same time I opened the Etsy shop & liked the alliteration.

How long have you been doing your art/craft for?

I’ve been puttering one form or another as far back as I can recall. Started drawing/painting in color about 10 yrs ago.

What inspires and influences your work?

random chance , music, stories, travel, overheard conversation, little vignettes or characters banging around in my head wanting out.

I also love art challenges, like Illustration Friday http://illustrationfriday.com/, where someone gives a prompt and you have to interpret it.

Where can you artwork/pieces be found?

In my etsy shop http://artsnark.etsy.com . Also at the Tampa Etsy Craft Party August 24th (at the Roosevelt 2.0 in Ybor City. For Event Details: https://www.facebook.com/events/411499628881870/ or http://www.meetup.com/etsy/Tampa-FL/738662/  )

You can also find my stuff scattered around the Tampa Bay area. I belong to an Art Abandonment group started by Michael De Meng. Members participate in random acts of art-ness, leaving pieces in public spaces with notes that they are free to anyone who wants them.More info here: http://michaeldemeng.typepad.com/art_abandonment/

I’ve also just signed on with Everything Eclectic, a company that hangs art in local businesses.

What do you do when your not creating?

For the day job, I work at R&R Games http://rnrgames.com/

For fun: gardening, fixing things, baking, reading, hanging with family, travel. Also spending way to much time on Pinteresthttp://pinterest.com/artsnark/

What is your favorite piece(s) that you have created?

The mysterious Case of Dr. Varluv  https://www.etsy.com/transaction/76873911

Why did you create this piece(s)?

The Red Riding Hood pocket shrine – I was thinking about writing a (very) short story about a found item & made the object instead

Mirror, Mirror was for the recent Snow White themed group show,  Poisoned Apples,  at the FunHouse Gallery in Detroit

Trust Me – Is a drawing of fellow Etsy Steam Team member, Wenchie. I love playing with an interesting face when I find one.

What do you feel is special about your art/craft?

I just like to make stuff. Occasionally something I’ve made speaks to someone else & that’s a plus.

Are there other forms of art and crafts you would like to learn? And why?

I’d love to work with fused glass more and try glass blowing. I’ve played a little with dichroic glass which was a blast. I love the idea of solid things going fluid & then becoming something else.
